Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would put her at least in the eyes of America, into the class of child prodigies. Maureen excelled as a sportswoman and played rough, athletic sports when she was a young. This natural interest and her talent in performing was astonishing. She won almost every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance that her country had to provide. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 She then was able to fulfill her goals of opera as well as classical theatre and singing.
